"Rock music should be dangerous. A lot of European bands right now are pretty dangerous. But American rock music is way too safe." --Per Stalberg, Division of Laura Lee, on 120 Minutes.
The last episode of 120 Minutes aired on May 4th, 2003, and it was a sad day. 120 Minutes has been a near-weekly fixture on MTV and MTV2 since 1986! I don't think any other show on MTV has been on that long, and it did it with no advertising, without so much as a simple page on the MTV.com website.
I still have the show on my TiVo, if you would like to come over and watch it.
It will be replaced by a new show called Subterranean which will air Friday nights at midnight. I would have preferred that they kept the name, kept the tradition going, but I'll watch and support this new show.
Posted by complex at May 12, 2003 12:42 PM | TrackBackYou know, I used to like MTV, when it showed music videos and all. There is something wrong when a music network has to create a second network just to show some freaking music videos.
Its almost as if Rock music has become the very thing it was born to despise; capitalism. I'm all for capitalism, because it isn't communism, but it sure has a habit of destroying things that go against the grain.

Do you hear me, Griswoldski? We Will Debate! And there will be no escaping this time, as I reign blows of logic down upon you.
